Domestic Violence & Human Rights

18.5x45in, quilter’s cotton (machine-pieced and quilted), created in 2024, NFS

This quilt is meant to represent the fall out of domestic violence & human rights. It’s not possible to encompass here the atrocities we are experiencing around the globe. This quilt was informed specifically by the work I’ve done with victims of domestic & intimate partner violence (reasons unshared here) who felt they could not escape.

What to look for: The "wonky sawtooth star" block is a modernized and improv’ed quilt block that I utilized to demonstrate violence, shattered identity, and strained relationships. The triangles are “flying geese” attempting to escape or move on, the erratic quilting meant to represent a ‘messy’ take on what it takes to heal from intimate partner violence. If you or someone you love is experiencing DV/IPV, you are not alone and there is hope. You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline for support, resources, and advice for your safety at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
