Complex PTSD ~ Relational Trauma

19x21.5in quilter’s cotton (machine-pieced) & hand-quilted (pearle cotton/floss), created in 2023, NFS

This quilt is meant to represent complex post-traumatic stress (not a formal diagnosis yet). C-PTSD can result from experiencing chronic trauma, such as prolonged child abuse or domestic violence, which can also be referred to as relational or intergenerational trauma (transmission from previous generations of the family). It’s closely related to PTSD and can be connected with borderline personality disorder. I also believe that this is where depression lives, whether it be due to trauma, grief & loss, or other compounded mental health symptoms.

What to look for:  The improvisationally pieced nature and colors of this mini quilt are meant to represent the painful nature of this diagnosis. The quilting is meant to look like childhood doodles but also are showing the 'spiderweb' effect of how trauma can transmit across generations, connected within and beneath.
